PAST EVENTS by Jackie May Despite the cold and later rainy weather, the January 8th OG field trip to West Harris County was quite a success. The 44 participants on the field trip, which met at Bear Creek park, saw a total of 97 species. From Bear Creek Park, where Golden-crowned Kinglets, Wood Ducks, and Pileated Woodpeckers were seen, we headed for Warren Lake, stopping along the way to view the Lapland Longspurs, and their typical longspur flight.. Sparrows were seen, including the LeConte's, Fox, and Harris. A Merlin was spotted as it flew over our heads. Among the "also seens" on our way to the lake were Sandhill Cranes, Red-bellied and Downy woodpeckers, Purple Flnchs, and Sprague's Pipit. Upon arriving at Warren Lake, we were greeted with the awe-inspiring sight of 2 adults and 4 immature Eatii Eagles, along with sundry ducks and geese.
