Ages ago the U.S. and Canada swarmed with non-migratory bird life As the ice sheet advanced and retreated birds were compelled to move or starve hut only for short distances and brief times. Thus the habit of migration was formed at the time changing seasons replaced the continuous semitropioal conditions of pre- glacial eras. ************ ******* Published hy the Ornithology Group, Outdoor Nature Club, Houston, Texas TORTHCOMIHq ACTIVITIES May 17 ORNITHOLOGY GROUP overnight camping trip to little Thioket Sanctuary near and/or Evergreen. At this time of year bird songs should he at their peak. Owls fey 18 and chuck-will's widows will he heard at night. Come and enjoy an evening with friends around the campfire. If you don't wish to camp out, come up for either Saturday or Sunday. If mora information is needed, call Mrs. Jerry Baker at Wa l-ZGkk or Hrs. Alvin Massingill at Wa 1-WU. May 13 Regular meeting of Outdoor Nature Club. The program will he presented hy the Photography Group. The subjects "Something to live hy." June 5 Bi-monthly meeting of the ORNITHOLOGY GROUP. Meet at Hermann Park pienie ground at 6i00 p.m. with a picnic lunch in your hot, grubby little fist. According to precedent, the screech owls will also he on hand. June 8 Regular monthly field trip of the ORNITHOLOGY GROUP to cover the Dickinson and Galveston County Park area. There is a particularly charming place in Dickinson we will visit. Meet at THORNHILL'S CAFETERIA off the Gulf freeway at 7s30.
