Transcript VOLUME XXI, NO. 6 OCTOBER, 1972 PUBLISHED BY THE ORNITHOLOGY GROUP, OUTDOOR NATURE CLUB, HOUSTON, TlJ_vA~S" MINUTES, REGULAR MEETING, ORNITHOLOGY GROUP, OCTOBER 5, 1972 Marilyn Crane, Chairman, called the meeting 'tb^ferQer at 7:30 P.M. Our five quests were introduced to the Group by'' Mar garet J6ries, and given a warm welcome by our Chairman. A vote of thanks was extended to Margaret and Paul STones and Maxine Wenger for the fine work they did on the 1972-73' 0". G. Roster. Motion was made, seconded and carried'that the reading of the minutes of the August meeting, which were published In the SPOONBILL, be dispensed with, there being no corrections or additions to those minutes. Accepted as read was the Treasurer's Report for August 1 to Sept. 30, 1972, showing receipts of $1.64.04, disbuWaeinents of $69.87, and balance on hand of $489.02. The following motions were properly rto'ide, seconded and. carried unanimously: "That $50 be given to the Armand Bayou Fund in the riatme of the Ornithology' Group." "That $25 be donated to the Sanctuary Building Fund of Outdoor Nature Club in the name of the Ornithology.Group." David Marrack asked if it would be feasible* to install a windmill at the Sanctuary to increase the supply of^water. L.A.M. Barnette answered that suoh a possibility had been studied and the conclusion reached that there was not a large enough' open space tomoke the installation worthwhile. Harry Brister reported that 'Etrsa'dsaa-"still needs a great deal of money- towards the purchase of the 930 acres! along Armand Ba'yottvj: Those making contributions are enc-ouraged to send them in between now and Dec. 1st. A nationwide.Solicitation for funds will ba made in TIME, NEWSWEEK, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED and U.S. NEWS &.WORLD'REPORT. r-If enough money can be raised, Pasadena will go ahead with plans to purchase more -land. along the bayou. The Chairman announced the following -tp^oihtmiants: Gladys Galbreath to be in charge of the Ornithology Group display at the Sanctuary during the November ONC field trip there; a Nominating f-^ftniBittee for the year 1973-74 composed of Sarah Gordon, Chairman, Ma_tlly».-Krog, and Rurtih Moorman, to report to the Ornithology Group at its' December meeting. Melba Drake mentioned that the new shipment of Gwen Frostic stationery was now available for sale. Jerry Baker reminded us to bring our aluminum scrap to every -.meeting. Phyllis Nimmons reminded those who had volunteered to assist with the bird census at Armand Bayou to get in touch with her. Marilyn Crane called attention to a news item in which Southland Paper Company was credited with setting aside a 50-acro tract of theirs near Trinity where the Red-cockaded .Woodpecker has been found.
