CLEARING HOUSE, January 1978
(How +o read the C-H: Species: Loca+ion—(how many) date, observers).
Clearing House Ed 1 tor's comment: As a result of wonderful participation by the birders of the UTC, there are many reports to the C H of January sightings. A total of
223 species are reported to the C H.
The matter of recording our Abundant and Common birds has not been resolved to the
satisfaction of the C H Editor and others. In this issue those common species which
can be readily Identified and are widely distributed in the UTC will be listed in the
regular list. A note will be entered following the name of the species saying: "Many
reports" followed by the lowest and highest numbers reported, in parentheses, i.e.
(1-42). If any of these species Is reported in unusual habitat or numbers +ha+ will
be no+ed separately. This method of including these species will make It easier for
the reader to follow the list of all birds reported for the month, as well as make a
current record of these species.
Observers should continue to send reports of a 11 species observed in the regular C H
format. The C H Editor is most pleased by the Increasing number of UTC birders who
send their observations for the records.
