Smaller than nearby loons and larger than eared and horned grebes. Long dark gray neck, heavy angular head, and white chin strap. Observed at 40-50 yards for approx. 15 minutes with 30X scope and assortment of binocs. One observer had previous experience. Jane Hamilton
