The gulls would fly off but would re-* •turn immediately. * • When the tape was left running, it turned * •out that someone had also recorded a teen-agers* •party on it. Out blared the voice of rock-and-* •rollin' Elvis Presley, guitar strumming and all* * Off went the gulls and they didn't return • •for 24 hours. TEXAS FORTHCOMING ACTIVITIES May 10 ORNITHOLOGY GROUP FIELD TRIP led by Ben Feltner and Dudley Deaver. Camera fans may be able to get pictures of nesting birds and young. Waders will help you get closer to the nests, so bring them along. There are plenty of woods birds to be seen in the Galena Park area also. Time permitting, we will go up to San Jacinto County. Meet at the Sears Roebuck parking lot at 7*1-5 a.m. After 7'30 a-m. will be a day late and a dollar short. May 10 SECOND ANNUAL CAMPUS BIRD COUNT sponsored by Sarah Lawrence College. Unfortunately this information was received after we had set our May Field trip date - also too late to get in the last issue of The Spoonbill. If you can bird one of our Houston campuses or large institutions on May 10, please contact Vic Emanuel (Mo 7~06l2) for further information. List of species and number of individuals is wanted, please. May 12 Regular meeting of Outdoor Nature Club. Armand Yramategui will speak on "Animal migration" with his usual combination of knowledge and enthusiasm. May 16 Annual Outdoor Nature Club picnic at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Haver in Westfield, Texas. Good place for birds - and other things! June 4 The annual meeting of the ORNITHOLOGY GROUP at Hermann Park, with screech owl in charge, will be a picnic supper at 6:30 p.m. Program: Vic Emanuel will discuss the Spring Count. June 21 ORNITHOLOGY GROUP FIELD TRIP to Freeport led by Clayton and Eva Gilman. We always see some good shore birds on this one (especially roseate spoonbills) and do some good beach scavenging too. Bring your swim suit - that baggy one you can put on in the back seat of a car - and plenty of chow (how else can you graduate to that baggy swim suit?)
