Transcript Page 3 The Duyf Pastures were not entered because of excessive rain which made the roads too mushy and the mosquitoes too friendly. This, too, is an especially promising new- area. The Crash Basin area and some land belonging to the airport that is now available to us for birding were inspected. The Kelso Property, where there is a good stand of trees is also available. Here we looked but didn't touch as it was only a half day trip and that picnic supper on the beach was getting to be a more inviting prospect by the minute. Also, we had had a pretty birdy day starting with good and varied numbers of birds at the East Jetties, including the magnificent frigate bird and white phase of the reddish egret. The common and Sandwich tern here were an attraction as was the marbled godwit. On the way to the DUYF Pastures we were fortunate to see many white ibis and roseate spoonbills in excellent plumage. Mottled ducks flew by also. Even so, we only saw forty-six species. Very welcome to our group were newcomers Dr. David Marrack and Tony and Jean Hayday. Dr. C. D. Speck and his family were also with us for part of the day. With a bit of a boost from Colonel Brown and Mrs. S. A. LeBlanc Galveston plans to form a society of bird watchers. To our pleasure, some of their group were with usj and we hope we conveyed to them some of the extra something that goes with bird watching in the company of other nuts - enthusiasts, that is! Plenty of good, sandy food and a fine swim and another frigate bird ended a day when birders including! Norma Oates, Leota Stilwell, Ruth Moorman, Dudley Deaver, Clayton and Eva Gilman, Jerry Baker, Katrina Thompson, Virginia Parker, Jack and Peggy Smith, Helen and Ella Wolfer, Johanna Grabbe, Josephine, Brahman, Leonard and Michael Wilkin, Maydelle Cowan, Dr. Hardin Craig and his wife, Raimund, Louise and Henry Hoffman, Darrell and Amy Jackson, Hal and Kitty Brown, Tony and Jean Hayday, Mabel and Bob Deshayes, Dr. David Marrack, Jeanne and S. A. LeBlanc and Dr. C. D. Speok and his family were all convinced that somebody loves us after all. CLEARING HOUSE!
