MINUTES OF MEETING OF ORNITHOLOGY GROUP
Wallace Mebane, Chairman, called the meeting to order at 7i30 P.M. October 2, 1969.
Mrs, Louise Doolittle and Mr. and Mrs, Julius Akers were introduced as new members.
Miss Harriett Jockel, Outdoor Nature Club, and Mr, Frank Bader, Chairman of Bird
Count, Columbus, Ohio, were guests.
Miss Sarah Gordon, Treasurer read the Cash Report which showed a balance of $__Et^05.
Mr. Mebane announced the following events1
October 26-OG Field trip to Anahuac Wildlife Refuge lead by Steve Williams.
December 27-Annual Bird Count-details to follow,
November 15-16 - ONC trip to Sanctuary - Gladys Galbreath is Chaiman of
Ornithology display, and books, miscellaneous items, etc. on birds will be
Botany Meeting Cancelled - A Field.Trip to Arboretum on Woodway is set for
Saturday, October 11, 1969, at 11;00AM. Mr Vines will porbably lead the
Conehology Group - Bud Anderson plans a trip which will be announced.
Entomology Group meets third Man-lay «& the Wofer residence.
Herpetology Group meets Monday, Qctpber 6 at Auditorium Childrens Zoo, Hermann
Park with Bill McClue presiding.
Photograph Group meets Tuesday, October 7, Bayou Manor, Clayton Gilman will
present a show.
October 9 - Audubon Movie - usual time and place.
October 14 - Outdoor Nature Club - Usual time and place.
December OG officers for coming year to be elected..
No old business, nor any new business was taken up.
The meeting was turned over to Mrs, Avis Brister, Program Chairman, who introduced
the speaker, Mrs. Annilee Turner of Books, Inc. She used a large number of interesting
books on birds in this connection. Also Mrs. Brister ..brought a number oS .library
books on birds, and various members, as well as Mr, Bader, entered into interesting
discussion on the books.
The speaker for the December meeting will be Ronald Blair and he will show a color
movie on birds as well. Come see it!
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourtned.
LATEST WORD OH WESTERH GULL by Bessie G. Cornelius
While on a wonderful bird safari in California in August, Ruth Buskirk and I were
escorted to all the good birding areas by Jim and Pat Ellis, birders par excellence,
formerly of Houston and now living in San Francisco. In the Point Reyes Penisula
area? near Bodega Bay, we came upon 16 Wester Gulls, in various stages of development,
feeding on fish entrails thrown to them by a couple of fishermen cleaning their
catch on the shore. As we were as close as ten to fifteen feet from them I asked
