Transcript a * _ » • Page 7 HISTOHY OP KflCOBD U.S. C c-TL.i/iS COuITlo On December 26, 1954, 43 observers in 21 parties set an all-time national record of 175 species of bird:- - three more than had ever been recorded in the 55-year history of Audubon Christinas Countsc Site of this record-breaking list was the San Diego, California area, whose 13o3 total was a relatively unimpressive 124 species. Although San Diego had never held the all-tine U.S. record prior to 1954, it did produce tne bigest list in the nation for 19£2, 1923, 1925, 1927 and 1926. Thus the U.S. Record shifts froia ^ xas (Harlingen) back to California.
