Transcript March 25 and 29 Field Trips Glenn Olsen 281-345-4151 hgolsen8@hal-pc.org Texas City Prairie Chickens Our field trips for March will visit the Texas City Nature Conservancy Preserve to view the Attwater Prairie Chickens. There are two field trips, both limited to 10 people. The weekday field trip is on Tuesday March 25 and the weekend trip is on Saturday March 29. Further details will be given to those who sign up for the trip by contacting Skip Almoney at skipalm@aol.com or 713-524-4285. The trip will require participants to be at the Texas City Preserve at a very early hour, probably around 6:15 AM April 26-27 Choke Canyon The spring OG Quarterly Field Trip will be held jointiy with the Outdoor Nature Club and will take place on April 26-27,2003 (April 25 will be your travel day). This trip is not a strictiy birding trip — its focus is on natural history in general, as this area in the Texas brush country has so much to offer. The following is a tentative schedule, although the exact locations will be at the discretion of the leader. Friday April 25 Individual transportation to the Choke Canyon area Saturday and Sunday, April 26- Meet in lobby of Nolan Ryan's Bass Inn ready to hit the road at 6:00 27 AM CDT (for those who want to catch the dawn) or at 8:30 AM. at the entrance to the Choke Canyon State Park CALLIHAM UNIT. Each days itinerary will be announced that day. We probably will take a break early afternoon Saturday for our big meal of the day and some rest. The trip will officially end around Noon on Sunday. Leaders: Bob Honig will be Field Guide, and Skip Almoney will be the Coordinator. Participants: There will be a maximum of 20 people on this trip. CONTACT SKIP ALMONEY (713- 524-4285) TO RESERVE A SPOT ON THE TRIP AND LODGING. Lodging: A block of rooms has been reserved at Nolan Ryan's Bass Inn (on TX Highway 72 near the park) and several campsites have been reserved at Choke Canyon State Park. Individuals may choose to obtain lodging elsewhere (the town of Three Rivers is just down the road). Costs: The cost will vary depending on which type of lodging chosen. The Bass Inn will be about $55.00/night for a double ($45.00/single). The camping will be about $12.00/night A cost of $10.00/person will be charged for miscellaneous expenses such as water and ice. Transportation: Each individual will be responsible for providing his/her own transportation. Car pooling is strongly encouraged. The field trip will officially begin on Saturday morning per the instructions above. Food & Drink: There will be a cooler in the leaders' vehicle with dulled bottled water. All meals/food will be at each individual's expense. Clothing: The climate will probably be warm and humid. It is highly recommended that you wear cool clothing that covers both arms and legs to prevent mosquito bites and sunburn.
