Sponsored by the Piney Woods Uildlife Society and the Houston Audubon Society, TRBA has moved from North Harris County College to Friendswood, Texas. Lee Richardson reports that the OG Library has the following new books: Mexican Birds and Hawks in the Peterson Field Guide Series and three volumes of Bird Behavior by Donald and Lillian Stokes. Good news for wildlife in Texas: Interior Appropriations Bill HR-5769 sponsored by Texas Democrat, Senator Lloyd Bentsen was passed recently. The Lower Rio Grande Uildlife Corridor (LRGWC) will receive 9.4 million dollars for land acquisition. An additional 2 million dollars was included to purchase habitat for the endangered Golden-cheeked Uarbler. Senator Bentsen requested funding for these two projects specifically and through his efforts, 1 million dollars more was obtained for LRGUC than last year. Urite Senator Bentsen at 703 Hart Bldg., Washington, D.C. 20510 or you may call and say thanks--1-202-224-5922. ArgghM Howl love the Sea!! The Ornithology Group sponsored one of the birding events of the year a Gulf Coast Pelagic out of Port Aransas. On November 4th over 80 seasoned (by the time they returned) birders ventured sixty miles into the Gulf to chalk up both Cory's and Audubon's Shearwaters as well as Pomerine Jaeger, showing once again that if you're willing to spend 12 hours on a boat with head hanging over-board you can help in documenting sea birds in the Gulf of Mexico. Each species appeared to want to be observed by all, making more than one appearance at boatside throughout the day, although the tiny Audubon's shearwater waited until the very end to allow itself to be thoroughly seen by nearly all. Finally, a close fly-by of the last group (2) starting in the bow and ending off the starboard side brought excellent views except to those who still were unable to lift their heads from the rest upon which they had settled at the first swell of the seas. And the pirates on board exclaimed ...."ArghhM How I love the seal" Submitted by Lynne Aldrich The Buffalo Bayou Christmas Court will be held on Sunday, December 23. This is the only count held within Houston city limits and many of you live within the count
