Transcript The Spoonbill A Publication of the Ornithology Group Of the Houston Outdoor Nature Club September 2003 Vol. 52 No. 7 October Program Native Bird Scapes in Your Yard Glen Olsen is a self taught amateur naturalist with special interests in birds and native Texas plants. He has been Houston Audubon's V.P. of Education, President of the Native Plant Society of Texas (both State and Houston chapters), and is a co-founder of the partnership between the Houston Chapter of the Native Plant Society and Texas Parks and Wildlife which resulted in the "WildScapes Workshops," an annual Houston event for education about ecology, native plants, and landscaping to attract and benefit wildlife. Learn how to create habitat for attracting birds and butterflies to your yard with native plants. Live plants and slides will be used to cover guidelines for proper plant selection, site preparation, characteristics and growth habits of each species. Learn which plants attract which bird and butterfly species, and how to provide year round food sources for birds. Would you like a plant list for Houston gumbo? Or what to plant in heavy shade? Glen will answer these and many other questions.
