COMING EVENTS Sunday OG field trip to East Texas to look for Red-cockaded woodpeckers and Bach- March 12 man's Sparrows. Last week a reconnaisance trip netted 28 Red-breasted Nuthatches, almost as many Brown-headeds, as well as several of the sought- after woodpeckers and sparrows. Meet at 8:00 a.m. at the Ramada Inn. IIth and 1-10 (IIth St. exit) in Beaumont. It wi11 take about 2 hours +o ge+ there. Bring lunch and Insect repellent. Tuesday ONC regular meeting, 8:00 p.m. at Garden Center in Hermann Park. The pro- March 14 gram will be presented by Richard Zlngula, who will speak on the "Gulf of Mexico and Man's Effect on It." Weekend ONC Visitor's Days at Little Thicket. If you wish to camp, you may do so Mar.18/19 both Friday and Saturday nights. This should be an excellent time to visit our Sanctuary to see what emerging Spring has to show us. Anyone who would like to serve as a guide for some part of the weekend to show new members around, please call Marian Taylor - 665-8809. Bring food, water, take trash home. Directions: North on 1-45 to Willis, turn right on FM 1097, then right again on FM 150, then right again on FM 945, go 2 mlles to gate on left (gate is set back from road). This Is about a 2-hour drive. Saturday HAS field trip will repeat the 0G field trip of March 12. March 18 the same. Directions are April I HAS TOURS plans two pelagic trips aboard the "Miss Hospitality" from Port April 2 Isabel. We wi 11 leave at 7 a.m. and return at 5 p_^._on_bo+Ji j\prl I I and AprlI 2. Meet at 8:00 a.m. at roadside park in April 15 High Island. Bring lunch and Insect repellent. Weekend OG field trip to Meridian State-Recreation Area. Full details were in Feb- May 6/7 ruary SPOONBILL, page 19. Of the spaces reserved by the OG, all five shelters and four of the eight camper sites have now been taken. If you wish a camper site get your $5.50 fee to Mary Gillette as quickly as possible. If you wish a shelter contact the park, AC817/435-2536 soon to see If they have any left. If they don't, Lake Whitney State Recreation Area, AC817/694-3793, is less than 30 minutes away.
