Transcript The Spoonbill A Publication of the Ornithology Group (OG) of the Houston Outdoor Nature Club ^f «aH April 2004 Vol.52 No. 4 April Meeting Monday, April 5, 2004 7:00 p.m. Bayland Community Center 6400 Bissonnet Learning Corner - 6:30 p.m.; Migrating Warblers of the Upper Texas Coast -by Rob Thacker and David Poteet Program: Heralds of Spring: — by Cecilia Riley Warbler Migration Cecilia Riley is the Executive Director of the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory (GCBO) located in Lake Jackson, Texas. A native Texan, a biologist and an avid bird watcher, Cecilia has committed her life's work to avian research and natural history in both North America and Latin America. Cecilia's educational background includes a B.S. in Ecology from the University of Texas at Arlington and an M.S. in Zoology from the University of Arkansas. Prior to her position at the GCBO, Ms. Riley spent 8 years at the UT Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas (aquaculture of tropical fishes) followed by 2 years at Texas Parks and Wildlife in Austin, where she served as the state coordinator for Texas Partners in Flight. Currently, Cecilia's professional activities are focused on the conservation issues associated with migratory birds and protection of critical habitat in the ecologically important Gulf coastal zone from Florida to Cuba and the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. The GCBO was founded as a partnership to accomplish conservation through avian research and the protection of coastal habitat utilized as stopover by migratory songbirds.
