Transcript Page 3 Dear 0. G.'S My birding got quite a shot in the arm this month. The big wooded area on Cull,en Blvd. just south of the KTRK TV station, near U of H, is just like a place far out in the country. It has a variety of brush, trees, tall grass, and even a marshy area in the middle of it. It is an ideal location both for birds and as far as convenience to Houston birders is concerned. I went in there on Oct. 14, 15 and 21 and each time there was a substantially different population of birds. The place combines the qualities of McKay's "Sparrow Place" with high trees. Please put something in the SPOONBILL about this new birding place, because it is just the thing for Houston birders who can't get away for long, and also I would feel like a hog if I kept this ornithological goldmine a secret. Best wishes, Steve Mr. Alston Clapp, Sr. reports that the first Whooping Crane arrived in Aransas Wildlife Refuge in the high wind from the north that blew into Texas on Oet. 14. * * # * * CLEARING HOUSE Numbers in parenthesis indicate the number of birds seen; other numbers Indicate the day of the month.
