Transcript QLfriU*% Ir/tHAtc AUGUST, 1989 August Editors: Aldrich & Gottschling If you did not fight off ravenous mosquitoes, crawl through obstacle courses of spider webs, and get drenched in sweat then you probably missed the August bird of the month at Smith Oaks Sanctuary at High Island. On August 20th a singing Black-whiskered Vireo was found. This represents the fourth UTC record and only the 5th record for Texas. A second bird was found a week later and at last report both sing on cue. See the notes for further - information. There were also numerous Olive-sided Flycatchers and various erapids. On August 20 there was a great movement of Yellow Warblers with the AAG party seeing at least 30 in Chambers and Galveston counties. The Clearing House Is a monthly record of bird sightings made on the upper Texas Coast.
