Large white goose, large light orange bill with distinct black "lip-line". Legs same color as bill. Observed at 50 to 100 yds. with 10X50 binocs & 45X scope. Bird walked Into mud flats on approach to 50 yds. Never observed flight. Probably disabled during last migration. — Warren Pruess SURF SCOTER: No Summer UTC Records - Early on the morning of August 16, the day after Hurricane Danny's landfall in Louisiana, which caused accompanying high tides on the Upper Texas Coast, I drove from the See Rim State Park Beach Unit east along the beach. It appeared that no other cars had been down the beach since the tide receded. About 1/2 mile down the beach, a large dark duck appeared from near the dunes & ran In front of my car toward the water. It was limping & appeared to be unable to fly. When It reached the edge of the water, tt stopped & stood for about five minutes about 30 feet away from me, & I observed It with 10X40 Zeiss Dialyt binoculars. It was approx. Mottled Duck size & very chunky, with a short upturned tail. It was flat-
