Transcript VOLUME XVII, NO. 12 April, 1969 REMINDER: Dues for the Ornithology Group are payable April 1 of each year. PUBLISHED BY THE ORNITHOLOGY GROUP. OUTDOOR HATURE CLUB. HOUSTON, TEXAS MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE ORNITHOLOGY GROUP HELD APRIL 3■ 1969 The April 3, 1969 meeting of the Ornithology Group was called to order by Chairman, Wallace Mebane, at the Downtown Recreation Center. Guests introduced were Helen Wilkins from Oregon, sister of Dick Miller, also the two young daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Ridge. Nettie Busby from Baytown, one of our subscribers and a regular contributor to the Spoonbill's Clearing House came to the meeting with Dorothy Lefkovits, a regular member, also from Baytown. The following announcements were made by Wallace Mebane: April 19 will be the date of the BIG DAY RUN - details outlined in the March Spoonbill. Ronald Blair will present the program at the regular meeting of the Outdoor Nature Club meeting on April 8. April 12-13 the San Antonio Audubon Society will have an over-night field trip at the Little Thicket Nature Sanctuary and it was suggested that as many OG members as possible go to help entertain these visitors from San Antonio. Several OG members plan to be at the Sanctuary on this week end. Sunday, April 13 is the date for the Outdoor Nature Club field trip to Camp Strake. Wallace Mebane said he had sent flowers for the Ornithology Group to the services for Sherwood Levy Davis who was killed in Jamaica. He asked whether this should be paid for by the club treasury or by contributions. Jack Gillette moved that we take the money out of the treasury. Motion was seconded by Louise Rogers. Motion carried. John Tveten said that he had written an article in memory of Levy Davis to be published in the next issue of the Spoonbill. The article was read to the group by the Editor. Jack Gillette moved that this memorial be accepted by the group instead of a resolution. Sarah Gordon seconded the motion. Motion carried. The article is as follows: "On March 13, Levy Davis was killed in a construction accident in Jamaica. An enthusiastic and active member of the Ornithology Group, his death was a tragic loss to all of us. We all feel the loss keenly, and join in expressing our sympathy to his wife, Sharon. Levy's love of nature and the world around him was not exceeded by anyone I have ever met. He recognized the true value of life and lived it to its fullest, while at the same time seeking to preserve and protect everything around him. Integrity is a word too often taken lightly, but I can think of no better word to describe this man. This integrity, coupled with tremendous curiosity, made Levy not only a lover of nature but a student as well - a student who stood at the head of the class. In the midst of these rather inadequate words there is a feeling that is more important to me. Levy was a friend - perhaps the best friend I have ever known - and that was a privilege not soon forgotten," The Treasurer, Sarah Gordon, 1969 of $109.37. then gave her report which showed a balance at March 31,
