MONDAY, AUGUST 1: OG MEMBERSHIP
MEETING. 7:00 p.ra Harris County Bayland
Community Center located on the north side of Bissonnet
west of Hillcroft. Former OG Chairman, Rob Thacker,
will speak on birding in Mexico. Rob will discuss "what it
takes" to travel and bird in Mexico by taking us to various
"hot" birding spots from the Monterrey area to Palenque.
Come early to the 6:30 p.m. learning Corner. Karen
Beekman will prepare you for late summer/early fall
shorebirding in her presentation, "Southbound Shorebirds."
SATURDAY, AUGUST 20: OG PELAGIC TRIP:
Deep-water trip out of Port O'Connor. This type of trip
provides an excellent chance for rare Texas birds as well as
marine mammals and whale sharks. The cost is $85.00 per

SATURDAY, AUGUST 27: OG BOLIVAR
PENINSULA SHOREBIRDING TRIP: On this trip,
led by Don Richardson, one can expect a large variety of
shorebirds, gulls and terns. Meet at 7:45 a.m. on the
Bolivar-side parking area for the Bolivar Ferry. If you are
coming from Galveston, catch the 7:00 a.m. ferry (be
there by 6:50 a.m.). The group will bird Bolivar Flats for
most of the morning then move to Rollover Pass and
possibly to freshwater habitat near High Island. Bring
sunscreen, insect repellent, water, mud boots and lunch.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17: AUDUBON FIELD
TRIP AND BEACH CLEAN-UP AT BOLIVAR
FLATS. Meet leader, Winnie Burkett, at the bollards on
Bolivar Flats at 7:30 am. for two and a half hours of great
shore-birding, then help clean the beach we all know and
love from 9:00 a.m. to Noon. Bring gloves, a strong back,
a willing heart, something cool to drink and good food!

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24: OG FIELD TRIP TO
HIGH ISLAND. Although many birders know about
High Island for neotropical migrants in the spring, High
Island is also good for fall birding. This trip will be led by
Laura Singleton, Ellen Red and Martha Micks. For

MEETING. 7:00 p.m. Harris County Bayland
Community Center. Jim Peterson, Curator of Oniithology
at the Dallas Museum of Natural History, and President of
the Texas Ornithological Society, will present an exciting
program on "Birding Hotspots in the American Tropics."
Jim is the author of many scientific articles and is currently
working on a book, Birds of the Trans-Pecos Texas for
University of Texas Press. Jim also leads birdwatching
trips throughout the U.S. and the American tropics.
Recently in Peru, he taught ornithology for International
Expedition's Amazon Rainforest Workshop. Learning
