FALL BIRDING AT ITS BEST by Jim Morgan On the afternoon of September 29, 1985 a very strong cold front pushed through Houston and arrived at Galveston Island at 5:15 PM accompanied by rain. An upper level low pressure cell was associated with this frontal system, creating an override effect which lasted into the afternoon of Monday, September 30, with rain ending on the coast around 3:00 PM. All salt cedars had birds in them, the smallest holding 3-4 individuals, the largest holding 20- 25 individuals. At a location about 8 miles northwest of Hwy 124 we observed a flock of 550 American White Pelicans. Birding the woods at High Island produced five more species of warblers, including an immature female Town-
