Transcript VOLUME VII No. 10 FEBRUARY 1959 ********************************************* ♦There have been interesting attempts to talk * *to birds in their own language by means of • •new techniques in recording sounds not appa- * •rent to the human ear. One of the most spec-* •tacular of these concerns starlings. A star-* •ling's shriek of distress when caught was re-* •corded to play back on a sound amplifying ve-* *hiele. Streets infested with starlings were * •toured with the sound amplifier turned on at * •full blast and emitting shrieks of starling * •alarm in hitherto unheard volume. The 'effect* •on human1 Inhabitants was not recorded, but * •the starlings left the village for good! * ********************************************* PUBLISHED BY THE ORNITHOLOGY GROUP, OUTDOOR NATURE CLUB, HOUSTON, TEXAS FORTHCOMING ACTIVITIES February 13 February 15 February 21 February 27 March 4 March 10 March 14 March 22 Audubon screen tour to the "Great Smoky Skyland" led by Mr. G. She cut a picture of a tiger's head from one of the children's coloring books, painted it brightly, and put it on the inside of the glass. The belligerent cardinal took one look and fled!
