Transcript Notes Black-bellied Whistling Duck - J. Whittle August 13,1995 Two ducks. As the ducks rose, the typical "neck and head down, legs down" posture typical of Whistling Ducks was observed. As the ducks passed by, the upper side of the dark wings showed a broad white stripe. Sharp-shinned Hawk - J. Whittle August 24,1995 Typical accipitor, typical Sharp-shinned Hawk shape and wing beat. Marbled Godwit - J. Whittle August 6,1995 Bolivar Flats and Rollover Pass. Typical large godwit Brown, with dark brown markings; cinnamon wing linings. Long, slightly upturned bill, pinkish at base, darker tip. Common Tem - J. Whittle August 6 and 13,1995 First date at Bolivar Flats. Second date Sea Rim St. Park. Small terns, slightly smaller than the Forster's and Sandwich Terns. Basically pale gray mantle and wings, with black patch from eyes back, joining on the nape. The birds showed a rather dark bar on the lesser coverts. Tail was forked with black edges on the outer feathers. Legs were gray, short, with essentially no thigh showing. Some variability in plumage was noted in the reports, especially on the 9th with regard to the extent of the black cap. Prairie Warbler - D. Verser August 5,1995 Near middle of Smith Oaks. Yellow from throat to belly. Black streaks on sides of breast. White tail spots and white undertail. Face was yellowish with somewhat indistinct pattern of gray through eye and under eye. Dark bar on side of neck. Gray upperparts. Did not show eye ring, yellow rump of white wing bars. Louisiana Waterthrush - D. Verser August 5,1995 At Boy Scout woods. Very white broad eyebrow contracted distinctly with buffy sides. Northern Waterthrush - D. Verser August 5,1995 Also at Boy Scout woods. Seemed a bit smaller with shorter bill than Louisiana seen earlier. Eyebrow very dingy. Lower breast yellowish Sides dingy yellow.
