Transcript Page 2 (5) The first count since 1949 before which there has been abundant rain. There was nearly twice as much rain In the Houston area In 1957 (57 Inches) as in 1956 (31,5 inches). Oddly enough there was cloudless skj almost all day of the count. (6) There were a number of species not seen this year which were recorded last year. The absence of some seems almost unexplainable. They ares Brown Pelican, Yellow-crowned Night Heron, Green Heron, Blue-winged Teal, Pigeon Hawk, Sanderling, Black Tern, Vermilion Flycateher, Winter Wren, Parula Warbler, Slate-colored Junco, Oregon Junco, Green-tailed Towhee, and Lark Sparrow. 23rd HOUSTON CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT--DECEMBER 29, 1957 —— —— —f-gtevi wTHlamsl ™~ Party Observers Total Total Exclusives No. (Leader Underlined) Speeies Indiv.
