Transcript VOLUME XI September No. 17 1963 3 tea ********************** ♦ Continuous change is nature's most con- ♦ stent characteristic. Few things in life ♦ are static. This fast-moving world is in ♦ constant change and each shift initiates ♦ a chain reaction. New developments, new ♦ philosophies, new policies, new tensions, ♦ and even the changing seasons and cli- ♦ mates affect the status quo and often ♦ bring on a feast or a famine which ♦ reacts favorably or unfavorably on birds ♦ as well as humans. Report of The Committee on Bird Protection, Clarence Cottam, Chairman, The Auk, July, 1963. ******************** PUBLISHED BY THE ORNITHOLOGY GROUP OF THE OUTDOOR NATURE CLUB, HOUSTON, TEXAS COMING EVENTS September 21 & 22. ONC Field Trip to the hill country - ROCKS AND CAVERNS. Leaders Mr. Leonard McWhirter. Two meeting places and times: 8:00 AM Saturday at the edge of Johnson City at Hobb's Motel - Charles' Restaurant under the tall Texaco sign; 10:00 AM Saturday on the east side of the courthouse in Fredericksburg. Spend the night at Parker Motel at Buchanan Dam. Balanced Rock, Enchanted Rock, Longhorn Cavern and other interesting places will be visited. September 29 (Sunday) OG Field Trip. Gulf Pelagic Trip aboard the "Captain Doc". At the last reading (about the 1st of the month) there were still a few places open for this trip. If any of you still wish to go, hurry and send $1.00 for reservation to entrepreneur Jerry Strickling at 5118 W. Bellfort, Houston 77035. Money refunded if trip cancelled. The remaining $4.00 of the $5.00 fee will be payable on board the boat. The boat will leave the Galveston Yacht Basin at 8:00 AM. Turn left off of Broadway on 11th St. and follow the signs to the "Captain Doc". For further details review July and August SPOONBILLS, call Jerry or call the editors. In the August issue we mentioned that food and drink were sold on the boat. Knowing birders as we do, we feel that we should qualify that statement by saying that the food is of the pre-packaged sandwich variety. You gourmands, gourmets and gobblers better bring your own clam dip if you want any. October 3 (Thursday) Regular 0G meeting. Downtown Recreation Center. NEW MEETING TIME - 7:30 PM.
