Transcript VOLUME XIII No. 8 December, 1964 I think that I shall never see A billboard lovely as a tree. Perhaps, unless the billboards fall, 1°11 never see a tree at all. Ogden Nash PUBLISHED BY THE ORNITHOLOGY GROUP. OUTDOOR NATURE,CLUB, HOUSTON, TEXAS COMING EVENTS December 27 (Sunday) - Freeport Christmas Count. Area leaders will be contacted by our leader(s) for full particulars. At the end of the day we will meet to tally up at 6s45 PM at Boyd's Colonial Restaurant in Rosharon, Texas. December 30 (Wednesday) - Galveston Christmas Count. Steve Williams is in charge of* this census and if he has not already reached you, and you want to join this week-day count, please contact Henry or Louise Hoffman and they will see that Steve gets your name to place in one of the parties. Being a week-day, there are many people unable to attend for one reason or another (usually work) so we need, lots of volunteers from among the rich, retired, idle, part- time workers, school vacationers or anyone willing to take off a day. January 2 (Saturday) - Houston Christmas Count. At the last meeting, Dr. Dave Marrack announced that we are quite a bit short of the number of participants for this count as compared to last year when 65 people made a record count for Houston of 192 species. If you can go out into the field for even a few hours this day, your help will be much appreciated. Call Dave at M07-1397. *-?A~ 1 For all newcomers taking part in any or all of the counts, remember to bring plenty of food for the day, clothing enough to keep dry and/or warm and 50d to give to the compiler. This charge is a requirement of the Audubon Society to help defray the expense of compiling all the count records throughout the country for publishing in Audubon Field Notes. Houston Christmas Count participants are reminded to bring a "covered dish" and clean shoes to the Snyder's home. The dish may be anything convenient for you to bring in your car that will keep throughout the day and, if needed, be heated that night. The shoes are a consideration of our host and hostess. Also, we want to remind all not to drive on the Snyder's lawn. January 17 (Sunday) - Linda Snyder will lead us on, an all day field trip to Chambers County. Me_t at 8:30 at LaPorte side of Baytown Tunnel.
