Minutes continued from p. 2 The 50 anniversary party of OG will be the evening of May 5* at 7pm at Bayland Park A check for $10.95 per person should be sent to Patsy Lawrence by April 15* to assure a place at the dinner. The program will be a review of the history of the OG and some anecdotes about past experiences. We hope to have some former members and people who have been instrumental in the organization over the years. Environmental Issues: Mary Dodson provided two handouts with updates on local conservation issues as well as a plea to inform Congressional Representatives of opposition to drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Program: Birds of the Davis Mountains by Kelly Bryan Kelly Bryan gave a very informative slide presentation of his recent birding experiences in the Davis Mountains. This area of Texas is largely owned by private individuals and much of it is unexplored in terms of its bird diversity. Kelly told about several forays with other experienced Texas birders into the mountains seeking nesting sites of various flycatchers and other Davis Mountain specialties. He detailed the study over a ten-year period and pointed out the effect on the birds of rainy periods as compared with drought years. He had several slides to illustrate the ruggedness of the area and diversity of grasslands with limited shrubs and some wooded ravines. His broad knowledge of the area and obvious interest in the birds made for a most interesting presentation. The Kodak Falcons Are Back A nesting pair of falcons is caring for 5 eggs in a nest box on the Kodak Tower. Watch the action over the internet at Kodak.com.
