TEXAS RARE BIRD ALERT TAPS Houston Audubon Society, 992-2757. 3rd ANNUAL NORTH AMERICAN MIGRATION COUNT Set your calendar for either 14 or 15 May 1994 for thk (third) national bird count. Thk survey k designed to obtain a one-day snapshot of the status of birds, determine migration patterns and monitor trends of neotropical migratory species not normally observed on breeding ground surveys within the United States. Texas led the nation in the 1992 survey with only 302 species reported from efforts in only 12 counties. In 1993, we had 443 observers in 51 counties who reported 389 species. Preliminary results for thk year's survey place Texas first in the nation for species reported by a state and a county. Contact Brent Ortego for information about participating in May and if you want a copy of 1993 results, send Brent a DOS formatted computer diskette. He will return it to you with the data in Lotus or Quattro Pro spreadsheet style in five files with a total space of 920K.
