Transcript The Spoonbill November 2000 Volume 49, No 11 December Meeting Program The December OG meeting, we will be at our regular meeting place at Bayland Park, on Monday, 4 December 2000. Meeting time is 7:00 PM. "Learning Corner" begins at 6:30. The program will be presented by Skip Almoney and David Sarkozi on: "Computer and Internet Birding" David Sarkozi is a computer support technician who has been using the Internet and creating web pages for birding for many years. He is also the sponsor of several e-mail lists for birders including Mex-bird, NeoOrn, Houston-OG, and TOS- list. Skip Almoney who travels extensively for his job, will show how he uses the Internet to get more out ofthe birding he does in his travels. The November OG Meeting Minutes ofthe November Meeting ofthe Ornithology Group Nov. 6,2000 Chairman David Sarkozi conducted the meeting. Learning Corner "Identifying Sparrows" conducted by David Bradford. Bird Sightings: Red-headed Woodpecker in yard near Gessner and Longpoint. Green-tailed Towhee in W. Harris County. Warblers were Male Black-throated Blue, Nashville, Yellow Rump, and Pine. Clark's Nutcracker at Smith Point. Rufous Hummingbird in NW Harris County. Eurasian Collared Dove at Anahuac NWR Large skeins of Geese (Snow & White-fronted) going south over W. Harris County. Golden Plover at Bolivar Flats. Wimbrel on the Bolivar Peninsula. Announcements: David Sarkozi announced the coming public workshops to gather input for the Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP) ofthe Texas Chenier Plain National Wildlife Complex. He urged everyone to participate in these workshops. This very important CCP will determine the activities for the Refuge for the next 15 years. Don Richardson announced that Houston Audubon Society Beginning Birding classes will commence in the spring. The October weekday field trip to Anahuac NWR was attended by 2 people. The Saturday trip to Brazos Bend SP was rained out. Mary Dodson provided a Conservation report "Conservation Corner". It was distributed to those interested. Bird Field Trips: Nov. 11 - Katy Prairie. Program: "Bird and Mammal Studies in South America" was presented by Dan Brooks, Curator of Vertebrate Zoology at Houston Museum of Natural Science. Dan also announced some very exciting events at the museum: • "Voyages of Discovery" going on now. • In March - An Audubon Exhibit on his mammal studies featuring many of his original specimens. • An outstanding scientist, George Farnsworth, is new Ornithologist at U of H. Pat Pease Recording Secretary
