Marrack February 26, 1997 At West Beach. Paler and bigger than adjacent Herring Gulls (first winter). Paler primaries, back grayish brown and paler than the brown of Herring Gulls. Heavy big- billed gull. April '97 Clearinghouse cont'd from pg.11 large, relatively short tail. Brown above, pale below, with darker sides. When wings raise, the outline of two white circular tufts were visible on the side of the rump. The centers of the tufts were brown. Both mandibles were all dark as far as could be seen. Legs were dark. Cave Swallow - ]. Whittle April 6, 1997. Marsh Unit Sea RimSP. Typical swallows with squared-off tails. Blackish-brown wings and back, buff rump, pale underneath. Cave swallow had pale throats, reddish forehead. Two birds were documented from this location on March 29, 1997. Yellow-rumped Warbler - J. Whittle April 25, 1997. Typical medium sized warbler. Upperparts gray, with yellow rump and nape. Two indistinct white wing bars. Throat bright yellow, upper breast black, otherwise underparts white. Lazuli Bunting - Ken & Louise Martin April 30, 1997. Head and throat brilliant blue, chest orange-buff, belly white with prominent white wing bars. At Smith Oaks, High Island in grasses near sign-in table and bench. Also documented by P.D. Hulce at this location on this date. Observed with flock of Indigo Buntings. This bird had a lighter blue head, almost turquoise. A back slightly mottled with black. Two very distinct white wing bars. Breast not observed. TOTAL INDIVIDUALS: 31,754
