He expressed thanks to all the officers who served this last year, especially Dan Coleman who served in his place while he was gone. The officers will be holding a planning meeting soon for the upcoming year. If any members have any input, any suggestions on speakers, learning corner, or field trips the officers would like to know. Contact Rob Thacker or David Bradford about speakers, or any of the officers know about anything else. Quite a few people had reports of good birds for this month. David Merrick has an abundant crop of tadpoles; if anyone wants some to restock there pond with frogs, let him know. Bob Luckner introduced the speaker Bob Honig, who spoke on their past trips to Trinidad and Tobago. Respectfully submitted, Janet Rathjen, Secretary. Field Trips Saturday August 9, 8:30 a.m. East Beach/Bolivar Flats. Shorebird migration should be in full swing. We'll start at the observation tower at East Beach (BigReefNaturePark)andthem cross the channel to Bolivar Flats. Rubber boots or shoes you don't mind getting wet recommended. Saturday September 13, 1997 8:30 a.m. High Island. High Island is well know as a spring migration hot spot, but many overlook it in the fall. Join us for fall migration and see migration from the other end. If there is enough interest I would like to put together a trip to Belize for the OG. I'd like to have a group between 6 and 10 people. We would spend some time in several areas of the country. I led a small group in March 1996 and we ended up with a little more than 220 species in seven days. March 28 (Saturday) though April 5 are tentative dates. If you are interested please let me know. Field Trip Coordinator David Sarkozi (713) 520-5906 North To Alaska David Bradford is planning an OG trip to Alaska 29 May 1998 through 14 June 1998. The trip will visit the Pribilof Islands, Nome, Denali, Seward, the Anchorage Area, and includes a boat trip out of Seward to the Chiswell Islands. Approximate cost is $4,000 and includes roundtrip airfare from Houston to Anchorage, Anchorage to the Pribilofs, and Anchorage to Nome, motels, van rental, and boat trips. If interested and would like more information about the trip please call David at 281- 855-2615. |
