Transcript Think about that. Most ofthe money to do the great things we want to do comes from people like us. We can and do make a difference. You can raise a lot of money twenty dollars at a time. President Bush promised a big tax cut. What would happen if we all rolled that money into conservation? That's a lot of money. Think about giving, or giving just a little more when you get that call or letter from your favorite conservation organization. The Houston Audubon Society needs your help to finish the Bolivar Flats initiative. The Nature Conservancy always needs our help. The Katy Prairie Conservancy needs to work fast if it's going to save any ofthe Katy Prairie. Soon we must organize and see what we can save on the Bolivar Peninsula; that's going to be a cash and carry project too. I wish there was some other way, but the future of these places rests in our ability to buy them right now. If we are going to protect them we must own them. The next four years are going to be crucial. We could loose so much in that time; let's not let that happen. I have a challenge for all OG members. Many of us go birding several times a month. I'm willing to bet gasoline and food add up to a pretty nice chunk of change for most of us. Here's my challenge to you. Stay home once a month and learn something about birds, and send the money you would have spent to an organization that will use it to save something for the birds. Your birding will be richer for it. You can raise a lot of money twenty dollars at a time. David Sarkozi About the Ornithology Group The Ornithology Group (OG) is a member ofthe Outdoor Nature Club (ONC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to greater knowledge about the environment and wildlife ofthe Upper Texas Coast. The OG is a club of individuals interested in all aspects of birding, including bird identification, listing bird sightings, competing in birding events and preserving bird habitat. Some members study bird behavior, biology, distribution and migration, while others just enjoy watching birds. The organization is designed to accommodate these diverse birding interests. Monthly meetings and field trips provide an opportunity to interact with and learn from experts in local and international birding.
