Transcript Calendar FEBRUARY Saturday, February 3: OG "Youth" Field Trip to West Harris County. Call to confirm details about the trip. David Veselka, 692-1384. Wednesday, February 7: OG "Mid-week" Field Trip to Brazos Bend State Park. 8:30 am. Meet Winnie Burkett at the headquarters building at the entrance for a half-day of birding. Participants should have a Texas Conservation Passport or be prepared to pay the entrance fee. If you wish to continue birding the area beyond noon, you should bring a sack lunch. Tom Lewis, 497-2550. Saturday, February 10: OG Field Trip to Attwater NWR. Meet at 7:30 am at the sign-in kiosk inside the refuge. Join David Veselka and Bill Eley to look for sparrows, waterfowl and raptors. The Attwater refuge is located eight miles northeast of Eagle Lake, Texas. Take I-10 west from Houston to Sealy. Exit at Sealy and proceed south on Hwy. 16 for about two miles. Turn right (west) onto FM 3013. Go west about ten miles to the refuge entrance on the right. Follow the refuge road to the sign-in kiosk. Saturday, February 10: High Island Work Day. Join Winnie Burkett at Boy Scout Woods any time after 8:00 a.m. Lunch will be provided. Call to confirm details about the trip. David Veselka, 692-1384. Monday, March 4: OG Membership Meeting. 7:00 p.m. St. Philip's United Methodist Church, 5501 Beechnut at Renwick. Peter Thayer will discuss birding software and technology. Warblers will be on everyone's minds this month and Peter Gottschling will review warbler identification at the 6:30 p.m. Learning Corner. Wednesday, March 20: OG "Mid-week" Field Trip to Anahuac NWR. 8:30 a.m. Meet Winnie Burkett at the entrance sign-in kiosk. Depending upon the weather and the birds, the group may visit the High Island sanctuaries after lunch. This is the time of year that both Yellow and Black Rails are possible at Anahuac. Tom Lewis, 497-2550. Saturday, March 23: OG Field Trip to Little Thicket Nature Preserve and Area. Aaron Stoley will lead this trip to find the Red-cockaded Woodpecker and to bird the area around the ONC sanctuary. Take Hwy. 59 north from Houston to Cleveland. Take the bypass around Cleveland. Exit onto 2025, turn left and drive five miles to a flashing light. Turn left at the light onto Hwy. 945. Drive 2.5 miles and meet Aaron at 7:30 a.m. along the road This should be a good time for woodland birds, sparrows and perhaps some early neotropical migrants. Aaron Stoley, 781-1372.
