Transcript AW* HUk by Noel Pettingell 10 YEARS AGO/FROM OCT., 1979 SPOONBILL "Places to Go**Victor Emanuel and John Rowlett found a feast of birds in salt cedars along the coasts of Jefferson and Chambers counties on September 26. When Victor is in the area during migration, he regularly 'beats the bushes' along the coast, and finds that the salt cedars can team with birdlife. In the thirty miles between Sabine Pass and High Island on the day mentioned, they found 74 Groove- billed Anis, _!5 of them in one large single flock. In that stretch of coast, they also had warblers, female Western Tanager, and other goodies. So remember to check out any salt cedars as you are traversing Hwy 87 between Sabine Pass and Bolivar, or Hwy 3005 between San Luis Pass and Surfside. By the way, Anis can often be found in the salt cedars on Quintana Road leading to the jetties."
