Patricia remarked on the orange-red color of the gorget. I mentioned the quite distinct white band below the gorget. This band vas enhanced by the rather solid coloration covering the flanks and breast. I would describe the color as being dingy rufous. The back of the bird was green. It did possess one remarkable feature, which brought to mind the white coloration one sees on old golden retrievers. The top of this bird's head was a dingy White! I have no idea if a hummingbird might age in such a fashion but I submit that this may have been an ancient Allen's Hummingbird. We observed this bird for about 2 minutes in good light, but not always at great angles. I used a pair of 9x36 binoculars, while my wife used her 8x42's.
