Transcript From The Chair First of all, I wish to thank those of you who have already bought memberships in OryCon '80. This advance money is extremely helpful to us--we need it to buy advertising, to buy technical supplies and office supplies, for display materials such as used in the Art Show or for other special programming needs, and for printing things such as this Progress Heport. If you know you're going to come to OryCon and you have not pre-registered, I urge you to do so. Your support now will pay dividends at Convention time in terms of better planning and a better show. Some of you may be worried about ash-fall from Mt. St. Helens. This is something it appears we'll have to learn how to live with. Chances are that there will be no ash fall and no problems that weekend. The convention itself will not be concerned, inside the Hotel. To minimize transportation hazards and problems, you can take the bus, train, or airplane into Portland. The Portland Hilton, our Convention hotel, is one block from the Greyhound station. The Trailways station and Union Station (trains) are near each other in NW Portland. A city bus to the downtown core area where the Hilton is is free of charge, except weekdays from 15:00 - 19:00 when the charge is 55*. From Portland International Airport take #?2 (82nd Avenue) to 82nd and NE Prescott, transfer there to 01k (Sandy Boulevard) to Downtown for 55* w/transfer. City buses within the downtown core area are free of charge. One thing we hope to have at OryCon '80 is provision for "New Hum.-yi Beings", that is, children. Unfortunatly none of us on the Committee happens to be a parent. We would like to hear from those of you out there who have any ideas about appropriate child care procedures and especially for programming targetted in the 8-1'j- age range. We need to know things like what topics to hit, level of presentation, good attention- holding styles of presentation, best times for such programming• and the like. Please direct written correspondance (so we can keep it in our records) to Sam Butler, Programming. iuess that's it from here. May the long time sun shine upon you and the wind be always at your back. —Bryce tfalden, Chairperson
