Transcript A LETTER FROM FRITZ LEIBER About myself? Well, I!m a writer. A self- employed writer. An artist. Only incidentally a craftsman. I!d add I!m a seer except someone might ask me to predict the date of the first Mars landing and which team will win the pennant this year. Born Chicago, Dec. 24, 1910. Ph.B. University of Chicago 1932. Married Jonquil Stephens 1936. Associate Editor Science Digest 1944-56. Done a little acting;; a little teaching, a fair amount of encyclopedia writing and editing, even made a little money playing chess.. More about being a seer. A seer is one who makes a specialty of seeing, it sounds to me. I try to see as much as possible and put it into words* My first story to be accepted by a magazine (Weird Tales ) was "The Automatic Pistol," but that was a year or so getting published, so my first published story was Two Sought Adven- tire," a novelet about Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser that appeared in an early issue of Unknown. I keep going back to those characters —In fact, in the May Fantastic there!s a long novelet about them that I first envisioned and began to plot 25 years ago, but wrote only this January. Ifm probably going to talk at the Baycon about Fantasy and Vision*,.we can even call it "The Eyes of Fantasy" and leave me room to get in almost anything. best, Fritz Leiber
