Transcript | THE 1981 NORTHEASTERN REGIONAL FANTASY CONVENTION July 24 - 26, 1981 This year's convention wiil once again be held on the grounds of Roger Williams College, an incredibly beautiful and scenic campus overlooking the entrance to Mount Hope Bay. In summer, this region has all the appeal of a fine resort, and we've secured a package for the conference which itself borders on fantasy. (We said this last year and no one quite believed us — Some had visions of Booth absconding with the funds to Bangor Maine — If you didn't come last year ask someone who did. These are the real prices, not a misprint). Rather than the familiar fifty-dollar-a-day rooms usually associated with conventions you can get a package for fifty dollars ($45 per person if you want a double) that includes two nights lodging in a clean and attractive dormitory room, six exceptionally good cafeteria-style meals and registration. GUESTS OF HONOR Peter Straub is without question one of the finest - horror writers of our generation. He is the author of Julio, If You Could See Me Now, the bestselling Ghost $ Story and the pioneering Shadowland. Les Daniels has done everything; a book on comics (Comix), a history of the genre (Living In Fear), anthologies (Dying of Fright, 13 Tales Of Terror), a series of novels about the vampire Sebastian (The Black Castle, The Silver Skull and Citizen Vampire), a number of screenplays, songwriting (with Martin Mull) and some things which he will tell you about only if you have a valid driver's license or a draft card. Rowena Morrill has had her paintings gracing the covers of paperbacks for a number of years. She was the hit of the now-famous New Britain Fantasy Art Show which included almost all the the major talents in the field. Her work is best described as mystifying. Other artists scratch their heads and wonder how she did it whenever she exhibits. Pete Pautz is the Executive Secretary for the Science Fiction Writers Of America and an accomplished short story writer. He is the new boy on the block and he should be watched for several reasons (1) he is a friend of Charlie Grant, (2) he won last year's celebrity pool tournament (because Booth and Grant scratched), and (3) his wife is an extremely talented and beautiful artist. |
