The old Mission Trail, first trod hy the Franciscan founders of these Missions, rovers the i-oastal area of California from San Diego in San Francisco, li is often described as the cradle of tin- State's colorful history. With tin- exception of the Indian house's which once surrounded Santa Barbara Mission, it stanels almost as it was originally. Even ihe original Saiiituars. light has never been extinguished. In its chapel many famous churchmen have said mass, and in its museum rooms are old relics oi Indian days. In front of the- mission stands a fountain built in 1806, anil a long cement trough with wide. Hat sides, in which Indian women washed clothes.
