Senator Lehman has stated that the
country is in need of a controlled
Stream of fresh immigration. He made
it known that he did not propose unlimited immigration; rather, he pro-
Posed what he considered a conservative level. He proposes to abolish the
national-origins quota system and substitute a unified-quota system. Briefly,
'his system would make possible the
reunification of families, would bring
"ito this country those with technical
•'ud scientific abilities, would provide
•i larger quota for the downtrodden
Peoples of the world, and would promote the interests of the country in
regard to foreign policy.
•Senator John F. Kennedy (D-
Mass. I. in a statement to the Senate
Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigra-
"°n and Naturalization, said that
"ie United States has always taken
Pride in the fact that it is the world's

"Ue in no little part to the diverse
r''<-cs and backgrounds of its people,
,lri|i that Ihe country could reap future

'" the past. He alleged that the
['''honal-oiigins system conflicts with
'"oi the Declaration of Independence
a"(' the Constitution, and violates the
''"lilional American principles of de-
e<'"<\ and justice.10
Representative Frank Thompson,
'*■ (D-N.J.), testifying before the same
,''"ate Judiciary Subcommittee, stated
'it there are countless numbers of
escapees from behind the Iron Curtain. These people have listened to the
Voice of America, which urged them
to flee from communism.11 In view of
all this, is the United States to extend
a helping hand to this suffering
humanity, or is it to spurn the pleas
for sanctuary?
Those who favor liberalization of
immigration quote the words of
George Washington:
Thc hosom of America is open to receive
not only the opulent and respectable
stranger, hut the oppressed and persecuted
of all nations and religions; whom we shall
weir v to a participation in all our rights
and privileges, if hy decency and propriety
of conduct they appear to merit the enjoyment.
We also hear quoted by the opponents ol our present immigration law
the immortal words of Emma Lazarus,
which are inscribed on the pedestal of
that "lady of the harbor." the Statue
of Liberty:
Git>e me your tired, your floor.
Your huddled masses yearning to
breathe free,
Thc wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-
tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden
door!
Opponents of the Walter-McCarran
Immigration Act ask why should it
not be forever thus in these United
States of America? end
We Still Have Some Choice
A,"v time you make a decision you
orifice an alternative. Certain occu-

laws, customs, government, together
with all our people who dare to be
non-Communists. Our bitter Day of
Judgment is merely postponed until
such action on their part can be safe
and final.
We know that this is true. We have
been told it over and over again in
Communist literature; and we have
seen it happen to millions of people
unable to defend themselves. We have
abundant proof that world conquest
by communism is no empty lineal.
When we pause for serious thought,
we realize how lucky we are, to be
living under the Stars and Stripes, and
not within the enclosure of the Steel
Stockade.
lint let's remember that infiltration
lends to become saturation. Let's not
stretch our luck and our hospitality
too far!
