Transcript Man of the year is J. E. Williamson, student activities director, to whom the 1946 Houstonian is dedicated. By good will and by practical example, Mr. Williamson Kas demonstrated that the manifold student activity program of the University can be a vital force in shaping student character. Mr. Williamson accepted the position of activities director in 1944. Since then he has been the guiding light of student activity at a crucial point in campus history — a moment when the campus assumed its place as the second largest in Texas. "Practical education means the ability to work congenially with and for people, Mr. Williamson says. 1 feel that my job as a student activities director should be that of a guide and not a dictator," he smiles. In addition to being a student activities director, Mr. Williamson is an assistant professor of mathematics at the University. Always with a friendly smile, always ready to help each student, Mr. Williamson is a living example of good will. The student body owes him a debt of gratitude, and the Houstonian staff attempts in a small way to pay that debt with this dedication. *
