Transcript Tide Drowns Big Red Homecoming saw Big Red matched with the University of Alabama, the national champs to be. Led by Bill Howell, Pete Nikirk, and Jim Norris on defense and Clem Beard on offense the Cougars played spirited ball in a hard-fought contest. But Houston fumbles and misguided passes resulted in an ineffective cause. The Crimson Tide turned UH mistakes into a 10-0 lead by half. Halftime ceremonies didn't improve the Cougar morale and in the third quarter Alabama struck again for a seven pointer. Other UH scoring threat stood unrealized as Alabama disappointed Homecoming 17-0. Big Red Dusts-Off Tulsa The Cougars next tackled Tulsa University on the Oklahoma field. Inspired by the announced resignation of head coach, Hall Lahar, the Cougars got rolling early in the game. Ken Bolin galloped 73 yards with the opening kickoff to the Hurricane 18 and three plays later Larry Broussard carried the ball over. The PAT was good and UH led 7-0. Further scoring was not realized until the third quarter, at which time Tulsa reduced the Cougar lead to 7-2 by trapping Lindsey in the end zone for a safety. But this thrilling match was not over. With 49 seconds remaining in the game Billy Roland tore loose for a 54-yard TD scamper. With the extra point converted, Houston claimed a decisive 14-2 victory.
