Transcript Bulldogs Upset UH UH hosted a determined pack of Mississippi State Bulldogs for their next encounter. Before 27,000 fans the favored Cougars grabbed a 7-3 halftime lead. However, this margin was not enough, as State came to life in the third period with a two yard TD run. The Bulldogs then kept Houston's offense bottled up for the remainder of the game, and went on to upset UH 10-7. Cougars Shut Out Boston In their next assignment the Cougars tackled Boston College, famed for their huge linemen. But the big Bostonians proved to be no match for the swift Cougars, as Houston took charge early in the first quarter and was in control throughout the game. As Lindsey displayed brilliant punting a stubborn defense fought off all scoring threats, and UH shut out Boston College 21-0 for the season's first win. Rebels Drop Houston Playing on a neutral field in Memphis, Tennessee, the Cougars took on the top team in the nation, Ole Miss. UH threw a scare into the touted Rebels as they countered an early six point lead with seven. Billy Roland teamed up with Bill McMillan and Larry Broussard for two pass completions and the TD. It looked as if an upset was in the making, but the Rebels regained a thin 13-7 lead by intermission. The second half was all Ole Miss. The Rebels used a passing- running attack to score 34 points, while keeping Houston idle. The game ended with the Rebels winning by a 47-7 margin. Bearcats Bow to UH The Cougars next traveled to Ohio to provide opposition for Cincinnati. It was the Bearcats' homecoming and from the appearance of the first half it looked as if Cincinnati wasn't going to spoil it. The first half saw Cincinnati leading 7-0, but Big Red regrouped its forces and came to life the second half. Sparked by Ken Bolin's 80 yard run, UH scored twice, and held the Bearcat offense to a mere seven yards rushing. The final score was Houston 13—Cincinnati 7.
