Last year, thousands of Houstonians paid money to see and hear some of their favorite bands and singers perform. One big name this year was Miss Legs herself, Tina Turner. Turner has rocked audiences all over the world with old hits such as "What's Love Got to Do With it?" and new ones like "I Don't Wanna Fight No More". Turner's powerful voice, creative dance moves and overall talent blew Houstonians away. Another famous performer who graced the Bayou City with his presence was Tom Petty. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have been singing such hits as "Last Dance with Mary Jane" and "Free Falling" for over three decades. In that time, many Houstonians have come to love his music and were trilled when he came to town. There were other per formers that visited Houston such as alternative rockers Smashmouth and Stone Temple Pilots. For all the teeny-bopper fans there was Britney Spears, Harry Connick Jr. for the Houstonians who were in the mood for crooning and the Go-Gos and B- 52s for fans of the 80s. For the more extreme there was Kid Rock and even Dr. Dre. It's not hard to see why Houston is such a popular city. With the abundance of performers, who wouldn't like Houston? • by Linda Canales f-lmatm Cortwft Facti Ticketmaster handles tickets for concerts in Houston and to produce their tickets they use a thermal printing process instead of an ink process. So, watch out, because your tickets will actually turn black if placed in a hot area such as your glove department. 296 communiTY HOUSTOH COnCERTS • 297
