Transcript Fnnm Fanth Day Fekfa/al ederifaink Houktbniank The fourth annual 104 KRBE/Enron Earth Day Festival entertained thousands of Houstonians Aprill at Buffalo Bayou Park. The event was open to the public and featured Enron and more than 40 environmental organizations with exhibits and interactive activities, The purpose of the Earth Day is to teach people about protecting the environment and its inhabitants and preserving its natural resources. A Keebler Extreme Zone and the Pro Staff Kids Zone offered entertainment with arts and crafts , food and beverage booths. The festival also featured many popular bands including the Goo Goo Dolls, Train, Smashmouth, Dido, Edwin McCain and Vertical Horizon. Proceeds from ticket sales benefited the city of Houston Parks and Recreation Department and the Citizen's Environmental Coalition which is an alliance of more than 90 nonprofit organizations who work to enhance the environment of the Houston-Galveston area. At last year's event, the heat became so oppressive ad vtafy that the fire department stepped into action, hosing concert-goers down in order to fight dehydration. This year it will again be hot (although cooler than 1999), but the excellent band lineup will overshadow this problem. Event organizers expect close to 30,000 people and of course, many, many water bottles. The festival begins at 11 a.m. with musician Edwin McCain performing from 11:15 to Noon; followed by the Goo Dolls who put on a great show. • by Michelle Norton Ewm Fantk Day Fa Enron Earth Day is supported by various enviromental agencies and organizations.
