The festival featured top musical entertainment on eight stages, food from 55 restaurants and an array of speciality entertainment. Mayor Brown said in a Reliant Energy press release, "The Reliant Energy Power of Houston is a wonderful example of a private-public partnership working to create a once-in-a-lifetime cele bration for the city and its people." The festivities began at 10:15 p.m. Oct 19 with lighting of the Reliant Energy Plaza Building crown. Each weekday up to the firework show, fireworks lit up the morning sky. Southwest Airlines Power Lunch concerts took place daily in front of City Hall Wednesday through Friday. At the Mystic Cliffs Wine Fest, Houstonians sampled wine and participated in the 104 KRBE Great Wine Stomp. That Thursday, Houstonians heard the music of Ian Moore, sampled beer from around the world and participated in the Miller Lite Keg Races at the Great Brew Fest. Friday night then kicked off the Power Weekend with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and Margarita Fest. The Great Tastes Sunday featured music, food and The Ultimate Red Hot Jalapeno Challenge. The aerial dance troop, Project Bandaloop, once again performed to the amazement of many Houstonians.
