Transcript Cou^Ude imfkiak UH athletics enjoyed a memorable 1999-200 campaign ■fjiqklicjkti One of the highlights of the 1999-2000 UH sports season was the battle that the Cougar baseball team had to fight. The team made it all the way to the Super Regional Finals, but fate was not king to the Cougars as the team lost to San Jose State with a final score of 3-2. Although the loss was heartbreaking for the Cougars, they vow to be back next year, making their way to the College World Series. The 1999-2000 season will be a memorable one for UH athletics. With everything from individual accolades to coaching changes to conference championships, this year definitely captured some of the greatest moments in UH history. Ketric Sanford was one of the main reasons fans trooped to Robertson stadium. Beyond trying to get his team back to the Liberty Bowl, one of his missions this year was to break the school's all-time rushing mark. He did just that on a 29-yard run in the first quarter of a Nov. 6 game against Tulane, breaking Chuck Weatherspoon's nine-year record of 3,247 yards. Sanford ended his career with 3,636 rushing yards and 5,817 all-purpose yards. The women's soccer team made great strides this year, finishing within minutes of its first C-USA title in only it's second year in existence. Under the guidance of head coach Chris Huston and the play of Kara Bullinger, Lindsay Beiriger, Laura Repp and senior Michelle Dennomme, the Cougars showed signs of what the future holds for UH soccer. Clyde Drexler stepped down as the men's basketball head coach, clearing the way for UH's newest coach, former Ball State standout Ray McCallum. Drexler's resignation wasn't so much a surprise as it was untimely. In the midst of landing recruits like Alton Ford and developing players like George Williams, Drexler left at a time when it seemed like things could only get better for the Cougars. Finally, for a team that lived up to all the hype, the Cougar baseball players captured the C-USA regular season title and cleared the way for another conference title run and a chance to capture the college world series. • by Jason Caesar Consolacion The UH women's soccer team reached success in only its second season in existence.
