Photo by Ti Truong fc»»I&* The UH Women's Track and Field team captures its second Conference USA Championship in three years The eighth-ranked UH women's track and field team dominated the 2000 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships as the Lady Cougars ran away with their second outdoor title in the last three years. Houston claimed six individual championships en route to scoring 162 points and easily defeating the host school, Tulane, by 40 points. All-Americans Ifoma Jones and Jenny Adams won two individual titles. Jones came from 250 points back to win her third straight heptathlon championship with 5,009 points and also won her third straight high jump title with a leap of 5 feet, 8 inches. Adams won the long jump with a wind-aided mark of 21 feet, 3 inches and came back to win the 100-meter hurdles in a wind-aided time of 13.05 seconds. She set a new conference record in the hurdles with a legal time of 13.10 seconds on Friday. Houston's other individual winners were Theodoesha Rivers in the 400 meters with a time of 53.50 seconds and Rhian Clarke in the pole vault with a new Conference record of 12 feet, 2 inches. Senior Dawn Charlier finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:10.42 and 1500 meters with a time of 4:29.82. Junior transfer Tiana Smith provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.61 seconds. Jackie Rzepecki was third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:25.16 and Stacy Poole finished third in the 10,000 meters with a time of 37:40.31. Chigozie Chuku finished third in the heptathlon with 4,681 points.
