Transcript ukdek Senior Kenny Younger got off to a fast start, slumped at mid-season, then finished the year strong Html) \%OWM)& Forward/Center 6-9, Sr.-2L Minot, N.D. Minot High School Younger's senior season started outjj with much promise. He set realisticjj goals for himself, but a mid-season ■ jjslump prevented him from reaching his jj full potential. The lowest point of hiss season came when head coach Clydejj Drexler benched Younger for the* entire second half of the Feb. 23 lossH against Memphis. Younger responded!! with a great close to the season and a superb performance in this year's C-B USA Tournament. 1999-2000 GP FG-PCT. REB. A ST BLK PTS. 31 .459 75 47 37 25 13.5 i He scored 32 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in j UH's 72-70 win against Sac. State on Dec. 21. Kenny Younger was on a mission this season. "I'm trying to lead the nation in double-doubles," the 6-9 Younger said before the season. "That's my main goal, personally. For the team, we're trying to get to the tournament and trying to win the national championship - that's always got to be our main goal." Such high expectations for a team that went 10- 17 last season, one might think, but not for Younger. After finishing second on the team in scoring (15.7 points per game, 16.1 in conference play), second in rebounding (7.8 per game) and second on the team in field goal percentage (.485), Younger shouldn't have expected anything less from himself or his teammates. But it was a tough season for Younger and the Cougars as they fell to a 9- 22 record, bowing out of the conference tournament in the second round. Younger averaged in double-figure scoring throughout the season, but a mid-season slump led to his 12-minute performance Feb. 23. UH head coach Clyde Drexler benched Younger after scoring only one point and grabbing one rebound in the first half. The senior responded with a 15-point, eight- rebound performance in the next game at UAB. He went on to average 19 points in the conference tournament, scoring 21 points and grabbing eight rebounds in UH's first- ever C-USA Tournament win. "Kenny Younger is a leader and just a great player on both sides of the floor," Drexler said. "He was great for us most of the time this season. His future in basketball is very bright." In his final UH season, Younger averaged 13.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and shot .458 from the field. • by Jason Caesar Consolacion denied!
