Courtesy of VCM Photo hy Barry Watson Mmi§tm Victory Campus Ministries hrings students together through spirital understanding and compassion "I joined the Victory Campus Ministries my freshman year in 1997," Victory Campus Ministries President Lance Phillips said. "Actually I was not a very religious person. The first meeting however, I gave my life to the Lord." Each week Victory Campus Ministries has meetings called The Edge and weekend meetings called Fellowship Nights. Students, from international to athletes, come to the meetings and go to either a movie or bowling. The organization also has campus outreach programs like Big Tommy where speakers discuss with students subjects from evolution to premarital sex. The National Director of Victory Campus Ministries Kandew conducted the last meeting. "I became the President because of my commitment level. Once I finish with school and football; I will come back to serve full time in the ministry," Phillips said. Victory Campus Ministries' goal is to see young people's lives changes for the better. "My life before coming here was about money," Phillips said. Many people never become successful or rich and the ones who do never lead fulfulling lives. We wish to break patterns of depression," Phillips said. With mentorship, people learn by example. Phillips admits that with his experience on the ministry he has learned how to help others. "Just to know that you are able to change someone's life is great," Phillips said. "I have to read my Bible everyday. Like my coach says, 'you are getting better or you are getting worse'," Phillips said. "People who are mad with religion is because their lifestyle does not represent what they preach. Other guys have a respect for me. They know my lifestyle," Phillips said. Victory Campus ministries is an avenue for students to express their opinions and learn about the teachings of the Bible. • by Andrew Sandoval COMI ALONG A VCM member pulls a water bottle apart to show determination.
