Courtesy of Baptist Ministry For many students, college is a time to find themselves and explore interests that they never had the opportunity to do before. The Baptist Student Ministry is an organization that just happens to help new and old students realized that sometimes the interest of doing good is the best interest of all. Baptist Student Ministry was the first religious organization on University of Houston campus, founded in 1939. Since that time, Baptist Student Ministry members have helped out the University of Houston and surrounding community with their services. This year, the group held its annual New Student Survival Weekend. New students were welcomed to stay overnight with Baptist Student Ministry members in the West University Baptist Church. The next day, everyone participated in various activities, including visiting churches around the area. Baptist Student Ministry also provided other activities for its members throughout the year. One of the events that the Baptist Student Ministry is known for is is free luncheons that they hold every other week. These luncheons are open to all the UH community and surrounding Houston community. It's a great way to meet people and to help make the community stronger, it also gives the Baptist Student Ministry the chance to inform students and the general public about their mission. Baptist Student Ministry also invited students to their weekly Family Groups. During these group meetings, members are to devote time to learning more about themselves as well as the University and God. Members also get together for football games, their annual Christmas party and even a Valentine's Banquet. Baptist Student Ministry has provided fun, friendship and memories for many students at the University of Houston and they plan to continue their tradition of helping students enjoy their years at UH.
